Fan Appreciation Night

14 April 2008 4 Comments

Last night was the final home game of the year for the Frisco Thunder arena football team.  I decided to go to the game for some fun.  It was fan appreciation night.  They were giving out free T-shirts, footballs, frisbees, and other gifts.  There was a great music and a good game.  I ended up watching the game from the North end of the arena.  From that part of the arena, I could watch the game and still watch all the people walking around.  I ended up standing at the bar between a group of guys on the left and a beautiful dark haired woman on the right.  The woman on the right was mid 40’s, 5′6″, shoulder length dark hair with green eyes.  She was dressed very nice.  She had on a pants suit.  Then I looked down at her hands… her nails looked battered.  She looked as if she did yard work constantly.  I could tell she chewed her finger nails.  I couldn’t believe it.  In my opinion, it ruined her whole image.  Oh Well.  So, when the game is over the fans rush the field.  The home team players sign autographs and take pictures with the fans.  I was standing in the center of the field and noticed a familiar face.  One of my bartenders from a local restaurant.  I’ve always said she has a great body.PT35  PT35 is a true Texas beauty.  She’s 5′8″ tall, busty blond, green eyes, with long layered hair almost to her waist.  She was wearing a tight, form fitting t-shirt, hip hugging blue jeans and cowboy boots.  Wow!  When she noticed me she ran to me, gave me a hug and a huge kiss!  Why do white women have to scream when they get excited in public?  I was too excited to be embarrassed.  I noticed there was a 10ft gap around us and anyone else.  I was shocked.  I never got the impression she was interested in me before.  I could tell she had been drinking, but not drunk.  She introduced me to her friend, he just stood there and watched her hang on me.  I haven’t seen her in almost 3 months.  She invited me to have sushi with her to Chaucer’s afterwards.  I couldn’t go.  DAMN IT!  I wanted to go.  So we made plans to go out another night.  When it was time for me to leave, she gave me another hug and huge kiss.  Normally, I’m never shocked but this woman totally surprised me.  I never seemed to make any progress previously.  The funny thing is the 2 other women I wanted to meet after the game then began to avoid me.   Maybe it was the red lipstick I had on me or I guess it was the kiss from the tall blond that made them go the other way.  At least I have a date to go out for sushi with PT35.

Lol…I can’t help myself. “Her hands looked like she did yard work” so she was discounted? It looked like she was a nail biter….farewell “oh you could have been the perfect one had you not bit that bothersome nail?”. Are you serious? I can’t help but go over a few key points in ones life; birth, teenager, 20’s, middle of the road, elderly, frail, death. I discount many of these key points for you because your past many of them as am I. You’re on the “middle of the road” key point. You may not be shallow, but stop voicing shallow in your posts. You discount a woman who’s attractive because she looks like she does yard work? Are you kidding? Good lord, next it’s that her left thumb seem to be not in unequal proportion to her right or her right toe sticks out further than the left or her left earlobe has a slightly longer hole than the other. Good lord…..may you walk the waters from coast to coast like Jesus.. Are you serious? This is silly.

It’s silly to think that men my age (or ours) are paying attention to such unimportant, insignificant things. As if our nail biting habits and the fact that we do our own yard work has anything to do with whether we’re black, white, mixed, not…..it’s all or supposed to be about C H A R A C H T E R..in theory anyway.

In the end, Ethan, in the very end, and we’re closer to the end than the beginning, which scares me sometimes, it will only be about who is there for you. It doesn’t matter about your ailments, your gout, your funny toes, or your garden hands. It will be all about your commitment and your unconditional love for someone who, at that point, has probably wiped your butt. Sorry, but I’m looking for love not conditional love from a “black” man who wants me for my fingers, my toes or my perfection…..I’ll never be that perfect…..and you’ll never find her.

I have a few comments in response to “ashanti’s” comments.

First of all, the girl was with a guy already…. so I’m sure Ethan was just noticing how nice she was dressed, etc… not really interested in dating her. (I could be wrong… but anyways…)

Regardless, first impressions are usually lasting impressions. It’s your first chance to put your best foot (or hand) forward. More often than not, something in your appearance turns potential suitors off. And it’s not just men that rely on first impressions. Women are turned off by certain physical traits that revolve around personal hygiene, as well.

If a woman is going to take the time to get “all dolled up” to go out, why would she neglect her nails? My thoughts are that this particular woman is in a comfortable relationship with the man that accompanied her to the game and she didn’t feel the need to fix her nails. She would rather spend her time making sure her outfit was put together and her hair was done - things people could notice from afar. She left her nails undone because the man she was with had gotten past that part of her hygiene and was in love with her character.

If I’m going to be in public and am single and hoping to make a good first impression, I am always put together… right down to my toenails. I don’t chew my nails, but some people do. To me, it’s a nasty habit… right up there with smoking. If I’m being superficial and too picky, so be it.

It’s my belief that we find these habits to be deal breakers because of something on a deeper level. Had he spoken with the woman and gotten to know her (if she hadn’t been with another guy, of course) he might have gotten to see a part of her character that would have over-ruled the nail thing.
