Guest post by Josey. Josey is my personal friend, long time reader and fan of IDW. This is her introduction to interracial dating. I am a single female, 36, who takes great care of herself and have been blessed physically with beautiful features, including a warm, eye catching smile. I was in two long term relationships with white men and had truly only really been exposed to white men as I grew up in a middle class populated with primarily “white” people, whatever that is… After the 2nd long term relationship ended, I had become “running buddies” with a very diverse, open minded group of people.
We were all out one night at a club and I found myself swallowed up in heat and attraction, having a wonderful time with a black man that was out with our group.
I had never been exposed to dating much and then especially among other races. WOW, I was so attracted to this man and so completely comfortable. We dated briefly and after that ended, I started noticing everywhere I went I was now physically very attracted to black men and not giving any other men even a glance. I questioned the logistics of why this sudden change. Was this a mid life crisis, was it the “taboo” of it, what was this sudden change. And just to clarify I am like this with everything and had nothing to do with thinking there was anything wrong with it. If you know me, you know my wheels are always turning in analyzation. After much thought and questioning, I came to realize there are certain characteristics that I found prevalent in black men more than other races. Not trying to stereotype, there are always exceptions, this just was my personal opinion and observation. Some of the characteristics I find to be so appealing to me personally are also some of the things I find most challenging (but I will write about the challenges later) I find black men to be strong and assertive not only physically but mentally and with their drive and ambition. I ponder sometimes, is this a survival characteristic engrained in their very culture because of past struggles… who knows… but I like it. I also find it very appealing for a man to be protective and territorial. No, not in a mean way, but in a very loving way that they “own” taking care of you and are proud you share your world with them. I think it’s endearing. I have also found black men to be VERY sexual… (yes you knew we were getting to this.. ) Being a very sexual and sensual person myself, I absolutely love this one! And I am talking about the passion they bring to the bedroom, the assertiveness, the way they love to explore all of you and you find yourself completely comfortable to try new and uncharted territory. I realize there are other cultures known for this as well, but my personal experience is no one holds a candle to a few of the black men I have had the pleasure of sharing nights of passion with. And one of the last qualities, another favorite is their loyalty to family, friends, and the ones they love. I do think it’s harder to gain their loyalty and their trust, you have to go the distance and will be tried, but once you get it, it’s Yours !!! That is a wonderful feeling for a female such as myself, whom truly values that Bonnie and
