Barack Obama & Interracial Dating

by Eathan

I normally don’t address political topics, but there is one thing I’ve noticed over the last year or so.? For all those that don’t know, Barack Obama has a real shot at being the next President of the USA.? I’m not here to voice my political choice, but there are a few things that I have to wonder.? Is Barack good for interracial dating??

I know that when Barack visited Texas, it seemed as if all the women were in a frenzy.? I totally understand that we are witnessing history.? I’m always happy for our society in moving forward, but this was more than that.? I hate to admit?this,?but with Obama on TV every day stimulating conversations and minds it also seemed that there was a large population of women that were being stimulated in other ways.? What other ways?? We all know that the largest turn on for a woman is her mind.? And the mind is the key to everything else.?

What I’ve noticed is there is another shift in the American culture.? White Americans have never taken previous black Presidential candidates seriously.? Hell, I didn’t even take them seriously!? Jessie ‘cut off his nuts’ Jackson?? Al ‘Big Perm’ Sharpton?? Neither one of them were serious contenders.? But now we have Barack Obama.? He has made it cool to support a black candidate. Which somehow says it’s?OK to give a black man a dating chance.? This isn’t going to affect those people who?are open minded enough to date outside of their race already, but it will affect?a new generation of IR daters (interracial daters).? It has opened their minds to something new and exciting.? It’s almost funny to see some of these white upper-middle class women that are now vocal about their support for Obama.? Combine the Obama factor with the Will “Fresh?Prince” Smith, Denzel?Washington, and the classic Sidney Poitier.? What you get is?something different from the black stereotypes of the past.? The fact is if/when Barack Obama becomes President, it will forever change the perception of the black man to our white counterparts.? I?laughed the other day when I saw a comedy sketch of Barack and Hillary on MadTV.? Yes it was funny, but it’s true.??Even MadTV knows that more women are considering a swirl relationship.

I will once again say it all starts with conversation.??The process is conversation, communication, and then stimulation.? It all adds up to one thing.? There is now a new?list of women?who are?considering a black?man for a potential love interest.? I say Barack Obama is good for interracial dating.?

I've never watched it before this season. I was hooked after Twitch and Kherington did the bed dance!

Rose petals are a nice touch Eathan...maybe you should try it with one of the chicks you're feeling! LOL
  • @ Honey I noticed that too.. but the white girls they got dancing are HOT! Hot!
  • @Sweeet--

I have often hypothesized that the reason they keep the pairings interracial on So You Think You Can Dance is to keep the non-whites around longer. If you've noticed (and I have) they have never paired two black people together for the first half of any season.

Additionally, in every season except this one, within two weeks of the fates of the dancers being put in the audience's hands (rather than the judges') every black person has been voted off within 2 weeks. This season is the first time we've seen a black-black pairing (Comfort and Twitch, I think) and it was random luck of the draw.

Actually, every one of the top 5 male dancers is non-Caucasian this season, which is nice. If Comfort sticks around (which I don't find likely as the fans don't care for her) then we are almost guaranteed to see some more interesting pairings.

  • @sweeeet well put.. exposure is what it's about...

I think So You Think You Can Dance has more power in the interracial dating arena. It sure has opened a lot of people's eyes, especially with the pairings they had in the beginning. It's a lot sexier too. There's some serious hotties on there! Obama has opened a lot of people's eyes to the fact that he's a formidable opponent regardless of his race. Unfortunately he also brings out all the backass, prejudice, ignorant people to voice their ignorance and show the world that America isn't as open minded as we should be. I get what you're saying though...he has probably stirred a few people to wonder if they should remain BV's, as you call them!
  • I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!! You must be a swinger!!

HA HA HA!!! Where's that little yahoo emoticon pounding his fist on the ground while laughing his ass off when I need him?

  • @ Rena You've STILL missed the point.. mainly because this isn't directed to you and it's not you expanding YOUR horizons. Trust me when I tell you that every day people open their eyes to something new that someone else has already experienced. This is one of those cases. You can argue til your blue in the face... but maybe you should ask someone who just started dating IR. And see what they say. It's similiar to the new show swingtown on tv... Swinging isn't new.. but there are new people being exposed to it. And how does that happen?? From the TV show.. and then you begin to realize there are swing clubs..swing sites..and swinging couples in your area that you've never noticed before.

@ Eathan - There's no great insight to be pulled from the fact that we have an intelligent, capable, man who happens to be African American other than the fact that IT'S ABOUT DAM TIME. I don't think white women across America are sitting around saying, "I could have had an African American!" C'mon....set the bar for women a little higher. Barack doesn't bring awareness to interracial dating.....he brings awareness to the fact that our country is in shambles and our current president is borderline "mentally challenged".
  • @Missy... BV = Brotha/Black Virgin And you're right... you don't have that stamped across your forehead... it got rubbed off awhile ago ...lol
  • What the hell is a BV label? I don't know what one is and I don't THINK I have one on my forehead... and no my roots are not blond...I just don't know all this IR dating lingo...

I still don't think white women want to run out and date a black man because Barack Obama is running for President.

I think white women considered dating a black man when they saw Amanda roll around with Blair Underwood on Sex and the City....Honey...he oooh..oooh oooh was sexy as hell in that show. Count me in coach!!

  • Either way.. advertising and media exposure works.. otherwise you wouldn't be talkin bout KY.
  • Rena
Seeing the constant his/her KY commercials doesn't make me want sex.....though it gets constant exposure. I try not to let "media exposure" influence my mind....especially not FOX news. And I agree with Teacia.....Brad Pitt and Mathew whatever are sexy, sexy, cool no matter the exposure. Whew....gulp....I need a cold shower. :)
  • @Teacia You're logical... and the Media exposes those smiles :) But it's one small step ...one small step.
  • Teacia
Hell naw...I said Brad and Matt could get it because they're sexy as hell. If I saw their asses walking down the street I might acost them..if it weren't for the media I wouldn't know who they were. But their exposure isn't what does it for me...the smile is.

I think that Barack's positive exposure will help to reform some of the beliefs of the past and being black and dating black may become more acceptable...but we're lightyears away from that revelation...sorry sweets.
  • @ Teacia Explain why that is different from the Brad Pit or Matthew McConaughey factor? Isn't it the media exposure that influences our choices?
  • Teacia
Hell to the naw Eathan!!!...hell to the muthafuggin naw.

    ...sweetheart there is no correlation.
  • @ Rena You can thank Teacia for emailing me to change my channel last night. I never said I pulled from Anderson 360 I said.. i wrote this post 3 days ago... I didn't post it until today. The fact is the media has a large influence on the majority of people watching TV. So it seems to reason that seeing him on TV adds to those who are now interested in dating IR. You forget one of my previous comments. This new exposure doesn't affect you..because you're no longer a BV. You lost that years ago. So you think it's old hat. And someone else *blinks* their eyes and says wow... where have I been all this time.
  • Rena
Oh Eathan....first, there's no comparison between your opinions on I Date White and those of Anderson Cooper. I looked for the transcript on last night's show, but maybe it's not available yet. I do want to see how you pulled from that something about interracial dating. Of course you increase exposure by being on television all day every day......that's what the medium is for...to increase exposure. But to stretch that to say that white women will now be attracted to black men "because" Barack has television exposure, I fail to see the comparison. Here's an example, I'm not suddenly attracted to Asian men simply because I see Wao Ming on television. You really seem to have a low bar when it comes to the intelligence of women.
  • @ Rena Thanks for that backwards compliment.. I'll take any I can get from you ;)
What my point is that there is a new group of women that are available because of his presence. You 2 don't see it simply because you already have the 'BV' label removed from your forehead. Being on TV every day... all day and being a prominent figure in our culture will increase exposure and the atraction to another black man. If you think I'm the only one thinking this... You should note that I wrote this post 3 days ago. Last night Anderson Cooper 360 talked about this same topic. So I'm not the only one noticing and taking note. just FYI
  • Rena
Lol....I gotta hand it to you, you can find a dating/sex spin off of any subject. I agree with Missy and just don't see the connection between Barack Obama and interracial dating. I also don't see what's "funny" in the fact that white, upper-middle class women support Obama. I hope you're not insinuating he has their support because he's an attractive African American man.
  • I don't think that those white middle-class women support him because he's a hottie black man. I think they probably agree with his views. But yes, it's good to know that our country is slowly getting past its prejudices--and sad to know that, once again, equal rights for women will lag behind equal rights for the various races. And even sadder to know that equal rights for nontraditional sexualities will lag the farthest behind of all.

  • Good for interracial dating?

I am scratching my head and don't see the connection with Obama and interracial dating. I could see the connection if Michelle was white but I am not connecting the dots on this subject.

I have to agree that perhaps he has helped changed the perception of black men in America but dating? uh...nah.

I have a CRUSH on OBAMA! AND DENZEL, and BLAIR UNDERWOOD,and USHER, and the list goes on.

Ut oh...now I am scratching my butt. Time for a shower!
