Top 5 Interracial Movies
Recently I came up with a list of movies that are on my list of must see for interracial movies. I’m sure there are some you’ve heard of before and a couple that are probably before your time. I love some of the classic movies. So if you’re interested, you should go out and rent them.
5. Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling (1986)- This is a comedy classic. This made my list strictly because of my love for comedy. Richard Pryor is one of the funniest men ever to grace the earth. During a period of his life he married a white woman. That lasted about 15 minutes during the movie. It wasn’t his longest relationship, but it was funny. Imagine being around Richard Pryor in the 70’s during his wildest and drug induced relationship. I know in some strange way she loved him. They had a volatile relationship that some how has them using every sort of racial slur towards each other. Richard was great at masking personal pain with humor.
4. The Body Guard (1992) - This movie had a 1-2 punch. It has one of the most incredible sound tracks. It also has Whitney Houston (black) in her 1st major acting role on the big screen. Of course, she played a singer that hired a white body guard, Kevin Costner, to protect her from a stalker. This movie took 2 A-list movie stars and combined them for our entertainment. This movie is great for dates. It’s full of romance and suspense.
3. Jungle Fever (1991)- At the time this was a very cutting edge movie for director and writer Spike Lee. This movie features the dark skinned Wesley Snipes dating Annabella Sciorra, a white Italian woman from work. This was the 1st time a feature film had addressed such racial topics in almost 20 years. Once again this movie followed in the steps of it’s predecessor and created a lot of attention and dialog regarding interracial relationships.
2. Pinky (1949)- Pinky, a light skinned black woman, returns to her grandmother’s house in the South after graduating from a Northern nursing school. Pinky has not only passed for white, she has also fallen in love with a white doctor. Pinky stays in the south to take care of white woman who eventually dies. During this time Pinky becomes resentful of the life in the South. Dr. Thomas Adams eventually finds out about her black heritage and wants her to resume her life as a white woman and marry him. She refuses to do so. Good Saturday afternoon movie choice.
1. Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner (1967) - I consider this to be the most charged movie on the topic of interracial dating. Joey Drayton, white, brings home her fiance’ to meet her parents. On paper his is the best thing since the invention of the Model T and sliced bread. He’s a accomplished and internationally respected doctor. He’s well spoken, educated, well dressed, and BLACK. Not only is Sidney Poitier the perfect actor for this role, he was at the height of his movie career with this role. This movie was controversial during the times of the civil rights movement. Interracial marriages were still illegal in 17 Southern States until June 12th, the same year this movie was released. This movie was truly taboo at the time. This is a MUST SEE movie. The dialog of this movie is timeless and priceless.

[...] Thanksgiving is one of the holidays where families get a chance to meet your significant other. I’ve had the pleasure to watch this happen several times. I can remember when I was a guest at a friends house and watched their family react in shock to the interracial couple. I guarantee it was better than Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner. [...]
