Over the last few weeks I have written several things about breast cancer.? Like most men, I love breasts.? I can’t say that enough.? I also have to admit that breast cancer is my arch nemesis.? It is the evil that this black super hero wants to fight with all of my comic strip super powers.? So like any other comic strip super hero, I researched my arch nemesis.? The #1 resource that I found was the Susan G. Komen Foundation.? I picked the Komen Foundation because their world headquarters is located here in Dallas.? The Komen Foundation has regular fundraising and awareness events all year long.? The Komen Foundation is the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.
All of this made me do a couple things.? I began to speak to some of my friends about breast cancer.? I’ve come to realize that we all know some one who is a cancer survivor or someone lost to breast cancer.? It has affected us more than most of us know.? Personally, my Grandma died of breast cancer.? The fact is, I wanted to do something more than just read about breast cancer.? So I’ve come up with a plan for IDW to contribute to such a great charity.
I (IDW) have agreed to sponsor a participant in the Breast Cancer 3day walk.? I am sponsoring a local IDW reader and giving back.? Let me give you the overview of the event.? On November 7-9, 2008 thousands of women and men come together, each raising money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Then they take their commitment to end breast cancer one step further and walk 60 miles over the course of three days.? Damn, that a lot of walking.? But it’s worth it and it’s for a good cause.? One thing that I didn’t realize is every person walking agrees to raise a minimum of $2200.? I want to help a IDW reader surpass that goal and you can help also!
There are several pink Breast Cancer Ribbons on this site.? You can just click on the ribbon.? That will take you to the website of the Official IDW Participant.? All I ask is that you click on the link that says – “Donate to Joanne”.? You can donate as little or as much as you want.? Donate $1 every bit counts.
Now I’m going to do a bit more than just donate money.? I am stepping up to the plate.? I am having a weekly drawing.? I will give away gift cards, IDW apparel and even some other FUN gifts.? How do you enter?? Donate a minimum of $5 during the week and forward your transaction ID from your Susan G. Koman donation receipt to me ( via contact page ) and your name/number is in the drawing.? I will hold the drawing every Monday and post the results on IDW every week.
The event is on November 7-9, so we have a few weeks to raise as much as possible.? I will also keep you updated on the event and some behind the scene details.
