Last night I was a bit bored and decided to do some channel surfing.? I stumbled upon a TV show called The New Adventures of Old Christine.? I must say I watched 2 episodes back 2 back and laughed my ass off.? I’m not a big fan of Julia Louis Dreyfuss but this show must have some great writers.? The premise of the show is that Christine is a single mother who is experiencing life.? Of course, life changes when her ex-husbands, younger girlfriend complicates her life.? I’m going to refer to this as SMS.? ( soccer mom syndrome)
I had to laugh at one of the episodes where there was a potential interracial relationship.? I must admit a common reaction of a woman’s friends is shock.? Especially? when they begin to explore their dating options after a divorce.? Their friends have the look on their face like, “I had no idea” or “I can’t believe she’s going out with a black guy”.? And every now and then you’ll get her girl friend that has the “What the fuck hell are you thinking?” look on her face.? I’ve always experienced the “he doesn’t sound black” comments.? So I wanted to share the video clip of the TV show, so that you can laugh too.? It makes me want to video all my dates now.? (in public places) ha ha
It makes me realize that a woman’s friends will create a date type.? They make assumptions based on her past relationships, likes and dislikes, and other social associations.? They don’t realize when she’s ready to step outside the box.? They don’t realize she’s been interested in dating interracial.? They don’t realize she met someone at happy hour, match or work.
So while I’m on the topic of the show The New Adventures of Old Christine, I began to look at other episodes.? I found a episode that dealt with the growing popularity of Cougars.? That would be the older woman, usually in her 40′s, dating younger men in there 20′s.? I realize there are plenty of women that blog about their dating choices with younger men, but I have to admit there is a funny side to the idea.? I have made jokes at my friends who date out of their age group.? Is she old enough to drive?? Can she stay out on a school night?? Is she old enough to get into the bar?? Yes, I’ve made all those jokes.? We all laugh.? And I’m sure if or when I go out with someone 20 years younger than me, they will give me the same treatment.? So I can only laugh when I saw this video.
So this makes me ask the question, have you ever had these type of reactions before?? Have any of your friends responded to your dating choices in a less than supportive way?? Which is more accepted, dating interracial or dating someone much younger?
