Blog Action Day 08

by Eathan

In support of Blog Action Day 2008, I wanted to join in with thousands of other bloggers who are coming together for one united group.? Blog Action Day is here to stimulate all of us to take action.? This year the plan of action is against Poverty.? Anytime I think of poverty, I always think of the fundraisers on TV for 3rd world countries.? The truth is, poverty is in every community.? It doesn’t matter if you live in Seattle, Dallas, New York, D.C., or even Florida.? There is a huge tent city outside Reno, Nevada.? Poverty is everywhere.

We are starting to get closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas.? That is usually the time when people are spending more time at food kitchens and donating money.? The big issue is there are so many other ways we can help during the other 10 months of the year.? With the current state of the world economy, so many people can use our help.? I noticed a report on the news regarding the amount of people that are using local resources, such as Goodwill.? Lots of families are looking to save money on clothing everyday, and this isn’t in a 3rd world country.

I would encourage every one to read the 88 ways to do something about poverty.? So many people contributed to the list of ideas.? It’s as simple as donating to a local soup kitchen, #29.? It could be giving a $10 gift certificate to 3 homeless, single mothers so that she and her children can have one hot meal at a fast food restaurant, #38.? The list could go on and on.

Poverty reaches all races, it’s not a interracial issue.? It’s a multi-racial issue.

I also want to provide links to my fellow bloggers that are writing on the same topic.? I will add others as they post their thoughts too.
