Top 5 Dates Under $25

by Eathan

The last few months I’ve watched the stock market take a total dive.  The Dow Jones has plunged so far it goes by D.J. now.  Even my wealthy, millionaire friends have cut back on their spending.  The one thing the economy has done is increased our financial awareness.  I’ve had several conversations with friends on how to date on a budget.  Is it possible to have a good time with out breaking the bank?  Yes.  I did some research and found some fun things that everyone can do that is lots of fun with out spending tons of money.  I have a list of 5 ideas that would surprise you.? Most of these will cost you $25 or less for 2 people.

5. Picnic at the park.  This time of the year the weather isn’t extreme.  You can still enjoy a picnic lunch at your favorite park.  I’m sure there is a area by the lake or the ducks.  Since it’s not 95 degrees outside, you should be able to have some fun on a Saturday afternoon.

4. The Zoo. Your local zoo is a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon.  I checked out my local zoo and realized it will cost less than $20 for two people.  I was surprised to see so many young couples there.  It seems like everyone had the same idea.  It’s easy to spend 3-4 hours walking and talking.

3. The Aquarium.  Aquariums are a great place to be.  No matter what the weather is like, you can enjoy the aquarium.  There are plenty of things to see.  There’s lots of people watching the fish.  Seriously, how often do you think of aquariums for an afternoon date.  It’s more fun that you remember.

2. Skating.  It doesn’t matter if it is ice skating or roller skating, you will have fun.  There is always good music playing.  There’s always a couple skate, so you can hold hands.  Going skating will bring back memories of being a teenager.  I’ve never met a woman who did not have fun skating.

NBA games.  My local team is the Mavericks.  I did some checking with Mark Cuban’s Mavs and realized they have tickets as low as $2.50 each.  You heard it right, $2.50!!!  I even noticed there are a lot of ticket prices under $20.  I know the atmosphere at a game is great.  You can have fun and cheer for your team.

I have a few other tips for everyone.  With the economy slowing down, there are a lot of non-chain restaurants that have coupons.  I did a quick google search and found lots of places that have online coupons.  I get several emails a week from local restaurants.  They range from a free appetizer, free Margaritas, free dessert, and even 15% off.  These are not just regular burger or Mexican restaurants.  There are steak houses, sushi bars, and even small cafes.  Not only will you get a great bargain, but you will also find a new place to eat.

**disclosure section**

Most guys are embarrassed to use coupons, because they don’t want to look cheap in front of your date.  Well, I have the solution for the guys.  No matter where you go, your date will have to go to the ladies room.  This is your chance to hand the coupon to the waitress.  You can also do it on your way to the men’s room.  If you do it correctly, your date will never know.

  • I think any girl or guy in this economy will appreciate a good deal for dinners or drinks or anything. I actively look for good deals and I'm completely unapologetic about using a coupon. Hell, she's lucky if I pay for her or we don't do dutch.

  • lol.. I go dutch most of the time. But every now and then I give in to tradition and pay. So these are some of the things I do when I pay. :D

I think even if you arent on a budget these are great ideas! They show that you put a little thought into the date. We also have a botanical garden which is a really cool place to walk around with a date. Also you should check into local art and music venues. We have a place here that almost always have either an art exhibit, play or a concert going on and admission is about $5 a person.
  • I love doing stuff like that.. I remember taking a date on a train ride from Dallas to Ft. Worth. It was one of the funniest afternoons and it didn't cost a lot of money.

Great ideas Eathan. The Dallas aquarium downtown is one of the best aquariums ever. They even have animals, so it's like going to an indoor zoo (great for those hot TX days). You can also get your hand stamped, go have lunch in the West End and go back.

Another favorite date idea on a budget is art festivals. There's usually food, drinks and music and you can always incorporate the picnic idea into it. If you're in Dallas, the Farmers Market downtown is also a great "walk around" place. You can even get your shopping done and cook something fresh for your date later. Fall is a great time for that, with all the pumpkins, etc.

In a time where we're all watching our budget, I highly recommend everyone check out their favorite restaurants online. Most have "clubs" you can join, where like Eathan said, you can get all kinds of coupons and 2 for 1 specials. They also send you free meals for your birthday, usually with a 2 week window, and they have all kinds of specials for kids. Makes eating out on a family budget a lot easier. I also have no problem choosing the restaurant for a date and then letting my date know I have a coupon. He doesn't have to feel uncomfortable using it because obviously the place was my idea. Never on a first date LOL.

So now, I get to tell you my #1 favorite cheap date place...THE BEACH. Oh wait, you're landlocked, you can't go. HAHAHA :)
  • Good ideas there... Oh yeah.. The beach is only for a select few. In a few years I'll make ya jealous. I'm working on a new location after the football years are over. :D
