OJ & The Verdict

by Eathan

It’s like deja’ vu!? It was exactly 13 years ago that OJ was found innocent of murder.? It changed a lot of things.? It created TV careers, news channels, and book authors.? I can’t believe that it took 13 years before the Goldman family will stop parading around on TV complaining about the results of the 1st trial.? I’m sure the results of the latest trial in Las Vegas will give them some feeling of justice.? Once again I was sucked in to the CNN for the latest news.? I feel like I was frozen in a time warp and didn’t know how to get out.? I heard the words, “guilty as charged” 13 times.? I’m sad for several reasons.

I’m sad to see anyone go to jail over stupidity.? I’m sad to see a OJ never embraced the last 13 years as a second chance on life.? I’m sad to see his co-defendant get wrapped up in such bullshit.? I’ve said it before, with $300k income from his NFL pension, he should have moved to Costa Rica/South Africa and lived like a king.

I believe in the idea of the American justice system.? I believe in justice of a Higher Power.? I also believe justice is always served over time.

I believe the District Attorney didn’t prove their case in the 1st murder trial 13 years ago.? I saw countless mistakes over and over again.? I sat back and watched the defense pick apart the case piece by piece.? This time the justice system seemed to take a list of suspicious characters and less than honorable evidence to accomplish what the previous trial could not.? The verdict was guilty on all counts.? I’m sure there are plenty of people saying, “he got what he deserved.”? Yes he did.? I’m sure there are plenty of people that are saying, “karma is a bitch.”? Yes it is.

ojtrial OJ & The Verdict

I’m also sure there plenty of people who are confused like me.? Why am I confused?? I’m confused over the letter of the law.? According to the law in Nevada, you can’t retrieve your own property by force or intimidation if it’s in the possession of another person.? As soon as I read that, I immediately think of two kids on the play ground playing tug a war over a Frisbee or a doll.? It’s simplistic, but it’s as simple as that.? One of those kids are committing a crime by Nevada law.? Right?? Fast forward to and insert two adults.? Is there a robbery taking place?? Is this a crime?? Why didn’t the police assist when they were told about the stolen property?? Or is this a civil matter?

The issue that complicates things are the guns involved.? Naturally I’m against using any type of weapon in a crime, but it makes me wonder how this happened.? How is there 2 weapons and 3 different stories on what happened?? Did they check everyone for pocket knifes too?? There seem to be so many unanswered questions.? It doesn’t seem to be BLACK or WHITE.

The lessons of the day:? Karma is a bitch.? Justice was eventually served.

What happens in Vegas, doesn’t stay in Vegas!

Just so you know there is some good new out of this story.? With OJ being in jail, there’s one less black man to date white women.? One less brotha competing in the IR dating scene.? And to all the white families, your white 20ish daughters are safe.? haha

I agree that the verdict of the second trial had alot to do with the first...and he may still be able to get out of this one too...He should have a right to appeal on the basis of "fair and impartial jury" clause...I doubt that there is anyone in America that doesn't know the circumstances of the first trial and if they say that they don't have an opinion on it they are lying...
But all that aside...I was talking to my admissions counselor and opening his email and saw the news...and we immediately had the same thoughts...OJ didn't have Johnnie this time...
and one thing is for sure the first case is anything but black and white...we may never know the full story
  • I don't think the full story will ever come out. There's too many shady parties involved.

Fair enough then. And excuse my ignorance saying 'daughter' instead of 'son'. Moment of confusion but you knew what I meant...I try to keep up with American current affairs but still have my moments where I get it wrong...cheers...

All in wish to say is "God is in control and He's still on the throne." Vengence is mine, saith the Lord, I will repay.
  • well said!
  • Losing someone (especially a child, even an adult child) to "death" is very different from losing someone to "murder". I doubt they will find it very easy to "move forward" from that any time soon, just as I doubt they are feeling any sort of justice. The murder trial was a travesty and the verdict an injustice and finding him guilty in this trial won't help how they feel about him in regards to the murder of their son or help them have an closure, not at all.
  • Interesting.

I live in Australia but I happened to be living in San Francisco during the first trial and I can't believe you said that about the Goldman family 'parading around'. I also happened to be in LA during the riots that happened after the Rodney King trial. Interesting times. They lost their daughter. Did you expect that they would just forget they had a daughter and that she was murdered in cold blood and move on? No one was found guilty for her murder. They will be haunted with this for the rest of their lives. It's got nothing to do with race. OJ killed his wife. He happens to be black, she happens to be white. He happened to be rich and somehow by some miracle was found not guilty. I hope he rots in jail. He doesn't deserve to 'live like a king'. I think in an earlier post you said that you thought he was innocent for the murder. Why are you defending him? I hope it's not because he's black cause the race thing shouldn't come into it. If it is then that makes you racist.
  • Rita, my comments regarding the Goldman family are directed to the fact they should realize that there will be no payment regarding they civil judgement. They should realize they will find better ways to find healing than chasing a 'dragon'. They should realize that their healing will come from a different place than being on TV relishing the memory for the next 40 years. They are religious people or so they say.. they should be able to find peace from a different direction. I have sympathy for anyone who has lost any love one in death... but at some point we all have to move forward with life. Maybe it's my strong faith that makes me realize that. (there's thoughts on that)

Here's my exact quote from my previous post on 9/14/2008 - "I thought he was guilty in some way then, and I think he?s guilty now"

If you can't find that quote.. look closely at the 1st paragraph of that post.

My feelings are, the 1st murder trial found him innocent. There's nothing that can be done to retry him for that crime. If he committed the crime, he will have his own judgement day.

I'm not defending him, I'm being critical of the legal system and the law that he broke. :D

The jury members just said that the audio tape is what made them give a guilty verdict. They also admit that the state didn't have much evidence with out the audio tape. Wow

  • I don't know what the confusion is all about. This black man killed a white woman and got away with it. That is not acceptable in America who didn't get the memo???. Still confused? If he'd married a sister please believe this would not even be a topic right now. I thought he was guilty when I was just in the 8th grade..and thirteen years later. I feel the same way!

    Have a great weekend,

    Go B.
  • Read a bit closer.. The confusion isn't related to the 1st trial, aka the murder trial.
