I normally don’t deal with political topics on IDW, but this is something more and special.? I’ve been glued to the television all evening just waiting and watching as the results from every state were announced.? It’s official, Barry Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States.? He’s the 1st man of African American decent to hold the highest position in this country.? Am I surprised?? No.? Tonight was a climax for the last 200+ years.? Tonight was a victory for the ages.? I’m so happy.? I’m still celebrating with the 100’s of text messages from all my friends from all over the country.
When I started I Date White, it was my idea of uniting the people of all different cultures, races, and backgrounds.? To show our differences and yet create some type of common ground love. ? It was my idea of community for those who think outside the relationship box.? It’s the idea of looking at the beauty of those different from ourself.? The idea of expanding our dating choices, relationship choices, and our future.? That idea exhilarates me.
The Presidential race has exhilarated me over the last couple years.? I live in Texas.? Texas is a historical republican State.? The last 2 years has made it a challenge to be a Obama supporter.? I connect with Obama for several reasons.? I see him as a product of a interracial relationship.? I see him as having the best of both worlds.? I see him being able to over come prejudice.? I see him as fighting an uphill battle for people of all different ethnic backgrounds.? I see him as a product of our environment, racial diversity
Just the idea of Obama being the leader of the free world has proven many people wrong.? It represents the change that is happening in this country.? I’ve always said IDW is about love.? I know that Americans are looking to accept diverisity.? I love diversity.? I love seeing people of different races and backgrounds uniting for a common goal.? I love diversity.
As I look at my sons, Alpha Boy and Dirt Bike Boy, I can tell them that they have the best of both worlds.? They represent the next generation of Americans.? There is a new generation of people that look beyond our differences and find ways to unite us all.? I can point to someone else besides athletes, rappers, and musicians.? Their dreams are what drives the future.? I can only imagine the dreams they will have based off the 2 different worlds that their parents come from.
As I watched the victory speech of Barack Obama, I can only imagine the stories I’ll tell when I’m retired in the Carribean.? I’m touched at the idea that there is a new generation that isn’t creating their social identity base on their racial make up.? At the end of the day, no matter what race you are, no matter where you’re from, we all have the same desires.? We all want happiness.? We all want to live a healthy life.? And we all want love and respect in our lives.? Barack Obama has offered hope for the hopeless.? He has offered change when no one wanted to admit change was needed.
I see a cultural change developing.? I see more and more people finding common ground for common love.? In typical I Date White form, I congratulate President Elect Obama.? Yes we can.. YES WE CAN!
I have invited several other bloggers to join in on discussing the results of this record breaking election.? I will link to other sites as I get emails from them.? Check back during the day to find out who participated and read their thoughts also.

It feels like a dream. If it wasn’t for my bills, I’d take a vacation day and just take a few pictures of the local’s reactions. I watched the results out at a Pub, and I sat next to 2 Persian women who have been in the USA since they were teens. They were in TEARS. They were in shock. They love Obama.
This means a lot for mending relationships with countries all over the world.
FYI.. meet me in the Bahamas, Bermuda, or Jamaica. I’ll have a sail boat by then, but I’ll always have room for some special guest. YOU.

YES! I knew he’d win by a landslide. He is the start of working on the future vision; we are in it already. Love and fun for any combination, respect, conflict resolution, taking all your citizens into account. I am so excited. He is paving the way for the beginning of dealing with the world as it is now, and can be in the future. YES! xo

I just watched the speech now – I havent spoken to my kids about it at all but she comes into the room and says “look mom theres the new president” – so I think they discussed at school!
She watched the speech with me and was as riveted as I was!
While I am not American this is a really really exciting thing to happen and not just for America – it has a ripple effect for the whole world!
The world needs Obamas hope and inspiration!!!!!
And to be able to inspire a nation as big as the US to vote in the record numbers they did – PHENOMENAL!!!

Yes, history was made. There were soo many firsts in this election season. Some how we were destined for change. I’m shocked at how it has touched me. It’s emotional in some ways.

Eathan, my brother, I’m glad to share this time in our nation’s history with you and others that I’ve met online. Our blog family and those who blog have made a difference. To see Dr. King’s dream come true in my life time–I just can’t find the words to express this feeling that’s deep within.

It’s amazing how our whole future changed in just one night. I went from hopeless to truly hopeful in our future. Before having kids, I was debating if I should at all. I wasn’t sure if it would be fair to bring them into a world falling apart as we were. I think this election has proven we are ready to embrace change, and we will prevail.

I have yet to cry…I think the significance of this day is still too great for my heart to digest.
But it has been a great day in our country, and I embrace our pending unity whole-heartedly.

I’m embracing unity too.. I will tell you a secret ..but don’t go telling everyone.
Dirt Bike Boy and I have spent the day together.. I actually hugged him at lunch..and it almost made me cry. I guess it’s the idea of hope.. the IDEA that he can truly have a fair chance to accomplish soo much more than his Dad, Grandpa, Great Gramps. The best way I can describe it.. the ceiling has been lifted so that he can see the sky and want to fly one day.
It’s very surreal right now. OKAY.. I’m done with my ramblings..lol
