Should You Shave Or Trim?

by Eathan

Earlier this week, I listened to a radio show that discussed the concept of manscaping.? The two male talk show hosts laughed at the idea, but it’s no laughing matter.? For everyone that doesn’t know what manscaping is, The Urban Dictionary defines it as -

“A term used to define male grooming below the belt. A male can use both an electric razor or a regular razor. A Mach 3 is preferable with the ladies on the testicular area. No female likes to deal with hairy balls, so men must education themselves on proper manscaping and maintenance techniques.”

First of all, let me say that I can’t imagine using a Mach 3 for shaving my testicular area.? (my balls twitch at that thought)? That’s a bit too close for comfort.? I prefer using a very steady hand with a special electric razor or a trusted date.

I continued to listen to the radio show discussion, because it also got the women involved.? Women called in to give their opinion on if a man should take care of his manscape.? The female callers shared many thoughts, but the one thing they agreed on is manscaping is a necessity.? Women expressed that in 2008, they enjoy a man that takes care of their grooming and hygiene.? I’m not sure what they would have done in the 1960′s when going Au Natural was fashionable.

The reason why I bring up this subject is because I hate body hair on women.? As many of you know, I mention this to a potential date as soon as possible.? I believe in shaving, waxing, and laser hair removal as much as I believe in the thong.? Of course, I have selfish reasons for this.? And they all involve my 5 senses.

As I think about my ex’s, they all shaved it off.? I can count on one hand how many of the white women that didn’t shave.? Actually, I remember one woman from Alaska that was Au Natural.? As soon as I found out, I couldn’t get physical.? I was no longer attracted.? And there was one other that maintained a very nicely manicured landing strip.? The landing strip was temporarily accepted, because she was very attractive.

This now brings me to the thought of my normal IDW question.? It’s been years since I’ve been physical with a black woman, I’m wondering if the practice of shaving it all off is a ethnic trend.? I’m sure that swimsuit models, entertainers, and actresses shave.? I’m curious does the regular black woman shave?

I asked a couple black women if they trim or shave.? They said they trim, but will shave if their man would like them to shave it off.? The black men I asked, said that most black women trim, but they should shave more often.? If this applies to the majority of black women, there is major difference from the white women. (under 40ish)? From my experience, white women remain groomed even if they don’t have a man in their life.

So I’m curious, is the practice of shaving done based on your ethnicity or is it truly a preference?? Do you shave and do you want your partner shaved?

One of friends said she like it smooth, so I cut it all off. It feels sexy.

Hi, I think natural and hairy for women can be sexy and show they are so hottttttttttttt! but it should be washed clearly,

I have been with men that do and dont shave. I prefer shaving or at least trimmed, especially if you want my mouth down there!!! Nothing worse than sucking on things and having hair in your mouth!!!! YUCK! I recently asked a man if he shaves and he quickly replied "heck no! that is gay!!". I had to laugh at him and tell him no it is not and could he at least trim. He was not up for that either. Needless to say nother ever happened between us.

Now as far as myself, I shave!! TOTALLY. I do it because I think it is sexy. Not to mention, if I was a man I wouldnt want my face down there with all that hair!!! Now I will go about 2 weeks in between shaving unless I have a special date ;) I did have a guy tell me he didnt like for a woman to shave and he wanted me to grow mine out. That was a major turn off to me. Just makes me gag thinking about it. I have no idea why this is, it is not like it is going to be my mouth down there, but I cannot do it!
  • Well I'm starting to think this could be a regional practice. I got some hate mail from people who think this behavior is associated with a child molester. I don't agree with them at all.

I agree with you on the clean issue..and not wanting to gag. ughhh. :D

I absolutely keep it bare!! I mean, its pretty why let it be covered up?

That being said, I do expect a man to be courteous and if they don't shave completely, then it needs to be very close trim. I have only had a couple of experiences where the man was not properly groomed.

Guess I have been lucky as well. :)

I've kept mine shaved (small patch above the shaft)now for years and I shave my stomach. I also trim the rest of my body hair real short to make everything look uniform. It feels much cleaner and much more comfortable. I have been working out in the gym for years and have a good looking body, the body shaving exposes the muscular look. It also makes things much cooler in ther summer as I live in the south.

    I agree,

I think that it is better shaved or trimmed than "au naturel". A sexual relationship is a skin to skin thing. The more it is revealed, the more appealing the sexual mate becomes. Sleek and smooth skin feels good and looks good.

Maybe people who like it hairy have different expectations of what is a sexy partner. Is a question of ethnicity? Maybe not. I would say that it is a cultural thing though. The fact that white people liked it the more natural possible in the 70s and the more hairless possible today probably reflects a change in body hair's perception.

That said, I'm white and most men I've been with (who were from few different parts of the world) were shaving or trimming without me asking. I certainly prefer it that way!

I know that I feel better and sexier without body hair. Living in Florida, bikini is worn every weekend. Legs are basically, at least half revealed, each day. So, it's a no-brainer for me.

    Ciao! Nad

I'm a black man and I've been manscaping regularly for over 10 years. Actually, my first shot at it was when I developed a cyst on my butt/tailbone (right at the top of the crevise) which the doctor attributed to ingrown body hairs. They shaved the area (plain old Bic razor) then did the sugery to remove it. The doc suggested to "keep that area clear" and I did for a while. When I stopped I developed similar symptoms so I've been scaping before the name became popular.

I use one of 3 methods...once every 1-2 months I get to skin level using a cream (usually Veet or Magic Shave paste) on my entire rear, lower back and entire scrotum area. For in between trim ups and maintenance, I use a Gillette Fusion Phenom or a Philips BodyGroom electric bodyshaver. Using the Phenom down there is actually very easy and there is not much of a chance of cutting ones self.

Never had a complaint about the smooth terrain, actually, have had several ladies complain about their other guys' old growth forest :)

I shave it all off. Whether I'm in a sexual relationship or not, I always shave. I am white. It is a personal preference of mine to do it. I, also, hate body hair. A man that trims or takes special care of his personal hygiene is super sexy and gets lots of attention from me.

I've noticed several black woman at the gym who don't shave their legs... so I can only imagine what else they don't shave. Pretty much all of my white or asian friends shave completely or wax or have laser hair removal.

Amanda, please !! the subject is not about black women !! We all know that, putting down black women is the only way for you to feel secure .
  • Ok.. I could have gone all day with out that visual. dayummmmm.

I'm glad you shave it all off.. I like it skin to skin smooth. ;)
  • Amanda
    What visual?
  • the visual of what else they don't shave...lol
  • I think it's a matter of preference and if your man is one that likes it shaved, you will oblige.

  • I am sure we have had this conversation :-p

For the most part I am shaved! If I am going out and there is a possibility of hooking up then I will definately make sure I am neat and tidy!

Now the question in reverse - do men shave according to their race? I have never been with a white man who has shaved!

Everyman I've been with...black, native american, white, has super short to shaved without me asking. Lucky me!
  • I'm sure we did have that conversation. I shave..and I'm not afraid to mention it. I guess we'll have to wait for other men to reply to find out if they shave or not.

I am white and date mostly black men. I want my men shaved (smoother than trimming, the more the better. It seems only fair since I shave (or wax before vacations or weekends together) everything off. I try to slip some sort of hint about this into conversation before the clothes start flying. It's a pain, but sooooo worth it. Not only is it considerate of your partner, but it is more hygienic and and comfortable in the warmer months. It seems most men expect women to be either completely shaved or shaved down to a little landing strip, AKA a Rio (never saw the point of that myself, but to each his own). I think women are starting to expect the same from men. I did not know this was somewhat divided along ethnic lines for women. Hmmmmm.....
  • I like my women smooth...and I'm quick to mention it up front also. I don't hit about it..I just say it. If they want any kind of luv from me.. you have to shave.. aka I hate body hair. :D
  • sicilian girl
i think shaving has nothing to do with the etnicity maybe with culture,or simply it's something subjective, i shave it but my italians girls don't shave they just go natural or trim it while my black brasilian girls all shave,so as u can see it's not a white or black thing.

funny thing i noticed is that my white girls who don't shave it have an obsession for body hair in general, they shave every inch of their bodies..while me and my brazilian girls have a brazilian point of view : A LITTLE BODY HAIR CAN BE SEXY!!!WEIRD''! i explain: in Brazil women shave it but they keep the body hair in their belly and butt, with the sun the body hair becomes blonde ( some also bleach it) and it's a sexy contrast with both black or tanned complexion.Brazilian dudes droole about it...!!!!!!

Also i think black men don't need to shave or trim their body hair is sexy as hell they can go natural and still be hot, while white men should shave/trim,but i would never ask a man to shave/trim for me..it's not this big deal to me!
  • I think Brazilians are in a league of their own. ;)
  • gypsy rose
I absolutely shave...all the way, no matter what is going on or who is around. I want a trimmed man, super close. It's more attractive, and it looks bigger :)
  • hmmm..I have to ask.. are you white or black? ;)
  • gypsy rose
I'm white. Can only speak for myself. Most white girls I know don't go brazilian, though. That's just my preference. I do it for me.
