Barack Obama – Change Is Coming

by Eathan

I’ve been in a different mood lately.? I’m trying to slow down time and absorb every moment.? I’m trying to document everything I can.? I’m watching history in the making and I don’t want to miss anything.? If there was a time when I’d appreciate Red Bull or Starbucks, it is now.? I’m watching CNN & MSNBC constantly.

Today is a day that I never expected to see.? Not because I don’t think there are capable minorities to be the President Of The United States.? It’s because I’ve always viewed this country like many around the world do, an Anglo dominated culture.? I know it may not be the most popular thing to say, but it’s true.? Until a few years ago, I didn’t know of a minority that I could embrace on as a nations leader.

President Obama

It’s amazing how things change.

I think back to our Founding Fathers and realize that they knew this day was destined to come.? Our government is based on equal representation of all people.? And because of democracy, the majority usually wins.? There’s no way to see such a diverse country stay one dimensional.? January 20, 2009 will go down in history as the day that changed the image of America.? It’s official.? It doesn’t matter how you say it, it’s true.? We have a biracial President.? We have a African-American President.? We have a multi-cultured President.? It’s all true.? And for one moment time feels like it is standing still.

I understand why President Barack Obama has a connection with so many people around the country.? For many, he represents who they are.? He represents his biracial heritage.? He represents African Americans.? He represents Anglo Americans.? He represents minorities.? He represents immigrants.? He represents change for many of us.

Change in leadership means a lot to people, companies, cultures and countries.? Change is what molds the future.? It allows us to attempt different solutions and approaches to the same problems.? And over the years, our country, our problems and our priorities have changed for many.? As I’ve traveled around the country over the last 30+ years, I’ve always noticed to the ethnic make up of cities and states.? It has changed so much.? It seems fitting that as the population and ethnic blend of this country changes, the face of our country has changed also.

I know that there is a chance that nothing will change politically in our country.? I know there is a chance that things will remain the same.? But there’s also a chance that something might change.? And as much as we resist it, change is coming.? Yes, change is here.

I’m sure that Obama’s parents didn’t envision this day when they met.? I can only imagine the reactions that his grandmother received raising a biracial child.? As many of you know, the 1960′s were not a pleasant time for a interracial couple or biracial child.? I’m sure that he will use his diverse background to do the best job he can.

As time moves forward, I’m wondering what affect this day will have on my two boys.? Will it change their life?? Will it change their goals?? Will it change their dreams?? Will it inspire them?? Will it give them added hope?

There you go again with a weak response. "As I?ve said before? The concept of the those historical documents were to be flexible according to our democratic country and culture. Hence..its effective. It will be effective also when a woman is elected to President and the next person of a different ethnicity.
I can only imagine what you think of women?s rights and that was less than 40yrs ago."

Riiight, I guess the FOUNDING Fathers foresaw a Civil War that cost 600,000 lives, led to the founding of the KKK and establishment of Jim Crow, because Confederates, and their supporters, believed so STRONGLY that Constitution was wrong to exclude Africans and women as equals? The document was flexible to the extent that it assumed those in control (Anglo-Saxon Christians)would alway be so. Over time, to supplement the founding documents, laws were passed to limit immigration, for example, from Asia. Native Americans were displaced and treaties dishonored.

Women's right less than 40 years ago? I assume you speak of abortion rights? Well, history buff, more importantly, women's suffrage (voting rights) began over 100 years ago which led to them being able to influence control over their bodies.

The anglo nookie has warped you bro! LOL
  • Actually, the Founding Fathers saw the chance of those documents to be challenged. If the foundation of those documents would have failed, then the government would have also failed. As it is, history shows that this country has survived the cost of Civil Wars, World Wars, and even domestic & foreign terrorist acts... and any other small or large challenges to the governmental foundation. Hence democracy. The populous decides by voting.

If you want to debate over the cost of the war.. the other wars that our country have been involved in cost over 600k lives over the years. Wars have always been around...and will continue to be something to deal with.

And the women rights i'm referring to are the Equal Rights Movement...aka E.R.A.

FYI... There is more than anglo nookie in my life.. but that also is a subject that you may need to do more research on. :D
  • Eathan, I understand how you might have felt that it is an Anglo dominated society sometimes. I can see how that some of our bruthas might think that and even use that as an excuse of not wanting to try to achieve lofty goals. Like I have said before though, the days of thinking that "the man is keeping me down" are over (and should have been a long time ago.) Change is here! And it is here to stay!
  • You will see the effects over the years, definitely. Today was an incredible day that no one will forget.

    Good post, Eathan.
