If you want to debate over the cost of the war.. the other wars that our country have been involved in cost over 600k lives over the years. Wars have always been around…and will continue to be something to deal with.

And the women rights i’m referring to are the Equal Rights Movement…aka E.R.A.

Riiight, I guess the FOUNDING Fathers foresaw a Civil War that cost 600,000 lives, led to the founding of the KKK and establishment of Jim Crow, because Confederates, and their supporters, believed so STRONGLY that Constitution was wrong to exclude Africans and women as equals? The document was flexible to the extent that it assumed those in control (Anglo-Saxon Christians)would alway be so. Over time, to supplement the founding documents, laws were passed to limit immigration, for example, from Asia. Native Americans were displaced and treaties dishonored.

Women’s right less than 40 years ago? I assume you speak of abortion rights? Well, history buff, more importantly, women’s suffrage (voting rights) began over 100 years ago which led to them being able to influence control over their bodies.

As for Douglas Wilder.. he might be popular on the east coast… but not well known on the West coast or even Texas.. sorry. The key is on a ‘NATIONAL’ platform.
If Gov. Wilder was a strong canidate.. he would’ve explored the option previously.

As I’ve said before… The concept of the those historical documents were to be flexible according to our democratic country and culture. Hence..its effective. It will be effective also when a woman is elected to President and the next person of a different ethnicity.

I can only imagine what you think of women’s rights and that was less than 40yrs ago.

The motives of the founding fathers, as they pertain to people of AFRICAN descent is DAMN easy to see! Look at the damn shackles on the legs! Look at the welts on their backs, the shacks in which they lived, the NAMES they were FORCED to take!! What other damn PROOF need YOU have!? The Declaration of Independence said all men are created equal but as I said before those who crafted it said Africans were only 3/5ths so the it was NOT meant to apply to the enslaved!

I wish a time machine was available to take your naive self BACK to the late 18th century and see if YOU would have been HAPPY thinking 12 generations would pass before somebody like you had a chance to lead like slave-owning George Washington and Thomas Jefferson?

To address your comments..1st of all you’re entitled to your opinion and I’m cool with that.

Just to give you a couple things to think about as you’ve listed the things that you’re disappointed about.

1. I’d never think I’d see this day. Why? Because you can’t name 1 African political leader that had mass appeal to gain the nomination of any political party in the last 30 years. Yes you had Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson run, but seriously.. I didn’t even take either one of them seriously. And honestly, they didn’t have enough appeal to cross over and capture the attention of American to make a serious push for the Precidency.

2. If you’re a true student of American history, you’d realize that Constitution was created and written in a way that made it a progressive. It offers checks & balances for any all branches of the US Government. Because of that, there are certain wrongs that have been made right. Am I saying that slavery was right? NO. I’m saying that the Constitution laid the foundation for every freedom and right that YOU and I enjoy to this day. There is no way that as more and more nationalities move to this country, things would change. Hence Amendments.

The motives and intentions of ALL the founding fathers can’t be understood by American today, except through the words and writing of the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution. The real genius and insight of our Founding Fathers are felt years later.

As I’ve said previously, things change. Priorities change. Cultures change.

First, to say, at YOUR age (mid-thirties) that YOU thought it would never come is frankly shocking! With the amount of progress in civil rights since WWII, the financial resources, the changing demographics of this country, I would expect a well-spoken, educated, man of any ethnicity could become President. What is more unlikely is not race as a deterent to election but religious ideology, specifically, being Muslim, post 9/11, especially, one who is conservative in his islamic beliefs.

Second, your comment about the beginnings of the U.S.A are disappointingly NAIVE and downright INSULTING to any one with ancestors of slaves! To quote you, “I think back to our Founding Fathers and realize that they knew this day was destined to come”.
These were men who acted in hypocrital ways!! They said in drafting a new order, black people were 3/5ths a HUMAN! They sought escape from tyranny only to practice what they loathed under King George! There is NO way someone of 230 years ago could fathom what changes time may wrought! They had not the smallest of means to fortell today’s event! If they did, then why not do something then to prevent the Civil War and its 600,000 dead? To prevent the Wars of the West and murders of the natives? To release the human chattel within a generation of the country’s founding and whose toil and bodies they used?

Get real!
There is NO FREAKING WAY they saw any of this coming!
