Interracial Sextuplets

I know most of you can’t turn on the news without hearing about Nadya Suleman.? In case you don’t know the name, she’s the newly publicized mother of octuplets (8).? After I released a few choice words towards the TV, I was in for a real shock.? Her story becomes more and more disturbing for many reasons that I can’t list here.? But I will compare her life/story to another one family I’ve become familiar with via the TLC Channel.? The show Jon & Kate plus 8 is much different from Ms Suleman’s pipe dream.

Jon and? Kate are a married interracial couple.? Jon is Asian American and Kate is white.? They make a beautiful couple and have large family.? How large?? They have a total of 8 kids.? They have one set of twins and they have sextuplets (6), for a total of 8 kids.? I’ve watched their show a couple times and the overwhelming thought of, “Oh Dear God” comes to mind.? With 2 full time parents in the house, it’s a mad house.? It’s beyond anything I can imagine.? Jon and Kate wanted to have one more child, possibly two and before you know it they had sextuplets.? They lived a very normal life.? They were very independent and a self sufficient family.

I’ve heard Kate discuss how life was for the 1st two years of their life.? She had scheduled feeding times at 8, 12,4 and 8.? It was 24/7.? She also mentioned that she only had less than a hour each day to make phone calls and to spend with the older twins.? According to her recollection, her peaceful time of the day was the 15 minutes she ate a sandwich on the patio.? And for two years she didn’t leave the house.? She had over 50 friends and family that helped 24 hours a day while Jon continued to work to support the family.

I know it sounds so appealing and glamorous.? Just imagine that schedule and she has a husband, family, friends, and more.? And I must say this family seems to be a very well adapted family.? I take my hat off to them.? Jon works full time.? Kate wrote a book.? And they have a reality TV show.? It seems like they took their responsibility as parents seriously.

Now to compare Jon & Kate to Nadya Suleman.? It’s like night and day!? Nadya is a single mom of 14 kids.? That’s right 14!? I’m not as educated about Nayda’s background, but I’ll give you the overview also.? Nayda used vitro fertilization to have sextuplets (6) and a few years later she used it to have octuplets (8).? You would think that anyone with 6 kids wouldn’t have enough time to think of more kids.? I guess she had spare minute.

What really shocks me is her understanding of financial responsibility.? Past the cost of the expensive hospital stay, the constant needs of 8 newborns, and children, diapers, cribs, bottles, and ect.? She has no idea of how she’s going to make things work.? The only thing she says is, “I won’t be on public assistance.”? Well that’s already a lie.? She’s recieveing $3k a month in disability for some of the kids.? She recently mentioned that she would raise them on student loans.? WTF?? Are you serious?? That sounds like a Bernie Madoff plan, aka ponzi scheme.

The other part that I’ve wondered about is the male donor.? It’s been reported that he is the donor for all 14 of her children and he is freaking out.? I’m sure he is freaking out.? I’m freaking out on his behalf.? I’m sure when he signed up to be a donor he didn’t expect Nadya to go back for more than the original 6.

Some of you have sent me tweets about Nadya Suleman.? One person said, “the fertility doctor should financially support the kids.”? Someone else mentioned, “put the kids up for adoption.”? God forbid she gets a reality show out of this.

Now I have been thinking about outrage that most of you feel towards Nadya.? And just like you I want a solution.? I have sympathy for all of the children.? It’s not their fault that mom is ‘jacked up on mountain dew’.? It’s not their fault for the public outrage.? It’s not their fault at all.

Do you feel differently towards Jon & Kate than Nadya Suleman?? Are you outraged at Nadya’s actions?? What should Nadya do to provide for the 14 kids?? Any suggestions for the fertility doctor?

As I finished writing this, I just found out Nadya Suleman has a website asking for donations.? When will I get a hard working dad donation site? (rhetorical question)

    Jon and Kate are certainly more stable and handling parenthood more responsibly than Nadya Suleman. I think the biggest fault here, however, lies with the fertility doctors who implant large numbers of embryos during in vitro fertilization procedures. Trying to deal with Nadya Suleman's situation now is the classic case of the horse is already out of the barn. Why wasn't this regulated further upstream in the process? Why are physicians allowing patients to hedge their bets on fertility treatments and implanting eight embryos in hopes that one or two develop? It's one thing to use artificial insemination and take the risk of multiple births that accompanies pre-insemination hormone treatments. It's another thing altogether to know that you could be facilitating the birth of octuplets.

    And what about a psych eval for Nadya Suleman prior to her in vitro treatment? What about social services? How did she afford those in vitro treatments in the first place? The medical establishment dropped the ball a couple of times with her, didn't they?

    That her 3 children recieve 'disability' SSI is beyond me!! I can understand the first one who has autism. But the second has ADHD and the third had a 'mild speech delay'. A mild speech delay and ADHD are cause for getting $700 per month EACH?!?!? My older son has ADHD and my younger had a pretty pronounced speech delay. I get NOTHING from the state for either one of them! The only thing I ever got was free speech therapy once my son turned 3 years old from the local school system. Until he turned 3 I was told I was on my own. If every kids that has ADHD or a 'mild speech delay' qualified as disabled and received SSI the system would soon be bankrupt. This is patently RIDICULOUS!

    Dee, I TOTALLY agree with you!
    I am a school "clinic lady" and work with "special kids" every day, I sometimes find myself saying "thank goodness that's not my child" and "THAT mom deserves a medal!"
    I am also too aware that unless you fight tooth and nail, you won't receive the services that your child needs and deserves. They SHOULD receive assistance so that they can benefit from private school which specialise in children with any learning or cognitive disability. Shame on her for cashing in on her kids because that, in my opinion, is what she is hoping for. If the media has any sence at all, they will stop at the 15 minutes of fame .
  • From what I've heard now..She is now getting death threats..and the police are having to provide protection for her. Another way for our tax dollars going to waste.. ughh. It frustrates me.
