I Date Persian?

by Eathan

A few days ago I had the chance to have a conversation with a man from Persia.  It was the luck of the draw that I bumped into him.  I could tell from his accent that he was from over seas.  Immediately I asked him where he was from and how long he’s been in the U.S.  He told me he was Persian and has been in the U.S. for five years.  In normal IDW mode, I had to get more information about his ethnic background.

I hate to say this, but I don’t remember his name.  He did tell me that he moved to this country because of is family. He owned a civil engineering company and was considered wealthy in his country.  Now he is a courier in this country.  He is married with two daughters.  His in-laws live in Chicago and told them how the culture in this country was much different than their own country.  So his family took a vote and decided to move.  He mentions that moving gives his daughters the chance to explore their dreams.

Since he has daughters, I had to ask some questions.

He tells me that in this country his daughters can pursue careers in what ever they choose.  One daughter is attending college in Illinois and the other is a Senior in High School and is planning on college at the University of Texas.  Both of their future careers are in science and couldn’t be pursued in the country. He says that his wife and daughters love this country.  They love the freedom, the fashion and the shopping.

Persian Women

So when I asked him about what Persians families think of dating/marrying outside of their race, he surprised me.? He mentioned that is one of the things that attracted them to the U.S.  He said that some families want their culture to preserved, but he and his wife was open to whom ever their daughters chose.  I didn’t ask specifically about dating black men, but i got the impression that it was OK.

The next thing I wanted to know about the Persian people is their religion.  Immediately he informed me that there are Muslims and Christians.  I’m not well informed to talk about the major differences in Persia, but I’d assume it’s like most other Muslim nations.  For me, I’m in love with bacon, BBQ ribs, and pork chops to pursue a relationship with a Muslim woman from any country.

Over the last few months, I’ve met several friends and women who are from the Middle East and India.  I must admit that I’m always attracted to beautiful women from all over the globe.  As I continue to expand my dating options, I’m always educating myself to know what to expect.  A few months ago one of my friend introduced me to beautiful woman from India.  The night of the elections I met a beautiful Persian woman at my neighborhood pub.  From all indications, a black man has a better chance to date Middle Eastern woman than I realized.  I’ve never had the chance to date a Middle Eastern woman, but I wouldn’t mind.

Would you move 1/2 around the globe to give your kids a better life?  Have you had any experiences dating someone from Persia or India?  Any suggestions on where Persian woman hang out, besides Persia?

"Any suggestions on where Persian woman hang out, besides Persia?"

LOL! Hey i am Persian - we hang out mainly in the big cities - i'm from London - most Persians in London live in Kensington, Chelsea, Hammersmith, Fulham and Hampstead. I know there are loads of Persians in LA, San Francisco and New York aswell

Hi! I'm black hispanic... I've always wondered why USAms are so obsessed about "race", but any way... I became interest in this culture and - let's call it- features thing because my wife is persian, she's alone here in my country which is strange enough and I met her when she was traveling alone in another country, so she is one in ten million persian girls . I've been twice in Iran and I must say YES!, believe it or not, the absolutely gorgeous Iranian Girls LOVE black guys, especially the well-educated, middle and high class girls... maybe it's the hip-hop videos in the satellite channels they watch (against the law) or it's some kind of revenge against their certainly racist male counterparts, I don't know and I don't care... but I can tell you that my wife has to hold my arm and show her wedding ring everytime we're out in Tehran's streets, because those eastern eyes are inviting and not very discreet... it's a pity for us most of their families are so closed and their men (fathers, brothers, etc.) so racist...
  • Well it sounds like I need to update my passport with a stamp to your country. I'm always looking to expand my knowledge on other cultures.

No, I WASN'T criticizing him for speaking kindly. I was saying his readers (of which I am one) weren't like that.

Persia is the ancient name for what is now Iran. I was only wondering why people who are from Iran would not just say so? Again, just trying to understand. Maybe they encounter a lot of anti-Iranian sentiment; their reluctance to identify their homeland might stem from that. I have no way of knowing and wondered if Eathan knew.
  • ohhh... I'm not sure. I'll send out a couple emails to find out. I'm not even sure how long the name "Iran" has been around.. or maybe it's like saying I'm a Texan as opposed to saying I'm American. I'll find out tho.

Its common that there will always be someone that has to question or challenge things. Judging the part about you speaking kindly suggest undertones of either ignorance towards their culture or maybe a little hostility. I maybe out on a limb on that one...
  • Well said. Now I have to ask my friends what the difference is..lol
    Cause I'm curious.
  • Eric
Amen to that my brother. Lol you gotta love em.
  • Did you understand Celeste's comment?

I have often times wondered about their culture, and have sought out somewhat to better understand it. Some of their ideals(which are very tradition based) can very easily be seen as taboo in our modern society. Now there are some very beautiful persian women that I have seen as of lately. For instance this girl that I used to work with was drop dead gorgeous. Gotta add Persian to my list of places to go.
  • I gotta admit that I'm learning more about them. And I agree also.. there are some beautiful ones out there. The ones I know, have beautiful eyes.

Persia? Just curious, but is that what Iranians are calling their country now? I'm not criticizing you, I just don't understand. Your readers are not bigoted people who are automatically going to question your intelligence for speaking kindly about Iran and the Iranian people. (You can delete my comment if you think it's going to start a war, I won't mind)

Iran and Iraq used to be known as Persia, I asked my uncle who is Iranian/persian. Some people still go by Persian though.
  • I have no idea what they are calling their country. I asked them a question..and that's what they identified themself as. I guess you'd have to ask a few to get that answer.

FWIW, my ex-husband's girlfriend is Persian, and she's Jewish. Her family moved to Canada to afford them a better life.
  • I think Canada would be a great place to live.. minus the cold weather..lol
