5 Father’s Day Activities

by Eathan

Father’s Day is the one day of the year that we pay our respects to dear ole Dad.  For many of us, he taught us how to catch a football, ride a bike, fish or hunt.  Some of us spend countless hours with him cheering for our favorite football team on Sundays or learning to BBQ on the grill.  Other’s remember him teaching us how to drive a car the first time in the Kroger parking lot.  But no matter what your memories are, Sunday is the day to show your dad you didn’t forget about him.

Here’s my 5 things that every Dad will appreciate.

  • Big Piece of Chicken -  Chris Rock said it right,  “give us the big piece of chicken.”  But what he really meant was take us to Wing Stop or Hooters.  Dad’s all over the world would love to eat wings, drink a cold beer beverage, and watch sports.  If that doesn’t put a smile on his face, check him for a pulse.

  • See a Baseball Game -- Since we’re in the middle of baseball season, going to the game is a great option.  I realize that the game is long and boring to most of you, but baseball is still a game among over-paid kids.  Taking your Dad to check out the local baseball game, eating a couple hot dogs, and nachos is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon with Dad.  It will appear that you’re spending quality time even if there are 40K other people around.
  • Have a cook out -   There is absolutely no way you can go wrong with this option.  Break out the ribs, brisket, hot links, potato salad, baked beans and peach cobbler.  We want it all.  Invite all of your siblings to come over.  Even if your parents are divorced, most Dads love to see all the kids together.
  • Car Show -  This one is over looked way too often.  I remember going to car shows with my Dad and Grandpa.  We spent the afternoon walking around kicking tires and drinking over-sized pop sodas.  There’s something about checking out engines, horsepower, exhaust systems and loud ass stereos that bond men all over the world.
  • Day at the Lake -  I have to admit that this one is one of my favorites.  I don’t live close to the ocean, so the lake will have to work.  If I planned my own Father’s Day, I would pick up Hooters wings and BBQ at the lake.  I would spend the day eating and playing with my kids.  Most of us Dads enjoy a fun filled afternoon outside.
