I think that it was both of their faults. I was not an avid watcher of the show but I would take a peek when the wife was watching it and my comment was always the same - "what a bitch". Sorry ladies. I never found anything that Kate was saying regarding Jon as trying to be funny for the cameras. It was her being the pain in the ass. Now Jon should have laid down the law with that mess. I am not saying be all "old testament" and make Kate submissive but dang let her know that he is a part of the family and not a doormat. The one thing that I could figure out is that Kate was not showing Jon any kind of "respect" so therefore Jon could not show Kate any "love." If Kate was not feeling like she was getting "love" from Jon she would do things that Jon would perceive as "disrespect." It is an unending circle of crap. I am with Eathan - I can always find something stimulating regarding just about any woman but Kate would not get any love from here.Daryls last blog post..You Don't Know Dick! (Well Now We Do).

C’mon Bro! Plenty of cultures are like that! I come from a large family too. You protrayed all polynesian men as “soft”. And to say those guys I mentioned are only aggressive because of their “job” is putting the cart before the horse. They play football because their personalities suited the gladiatorial sport that it is not the other way around.

And are YOU Mr. Dad. Aren’t you very warm hearted, caring and loving? I gather your parents were good people too!

Yes I’m familiar with those names and I’m very familiar with Trinity.. one of Dirt Bike Boys cousins was a starter and played on their State Championship teams in the last few years.

What I’m referring to is their culture has a tendency to be centered around family, tradition, and the belief of releasing positive energy into the universe. Basically Kate disrespected Jon. And somehow Jon has realized that things are way out of control. And even though Seau, Palamalu, Tatupu and others play in the NFL.. that is their job. They are described as being very warm hearted, caring and loving people outside of the NFL.

Man, I had to comment about your speculation on why John is the way he is. You said “And if I had to guess, his culture is a big part of his passive attitude”. You ever heard of Junior Seau? Troy Palamalu? Mosi Tatupu? All of Polynesian descent. All NFL football players. Those are just a few. Have you ever seen the War Dance that Euless Trinity does before football games? Its Polynesian heritage bro.

Hope not you go out west and some Islanders happen to have read your column. They might want to impose their passive warrior ways upon thy backside! LOL

Great post. I never watched the show until last night’s episode. Yes, Kate came across as a controlling bitch. Maybe Jon standing up to her will motivate her to take a good hard look at herself. Or maybe she’ll find a Jon replacement, and keep being controlling like that. As for Jon, he was 22 when he got married.
