Remembering Michael Jackson

by Eathan

Wow is all I can say.  I’m still shocked that Michael Jackson has died.  Michael Jackson was beloved by many all over the world.  His music crossed racial boundaries more than any other musician in the lst 50 years.  As I watch MTV and CNN, I realize that there are far too many songs to list.  Of course, I remember Thriller, Billie Jean, and We are the World.  But the list goes on and on.

I heard Al Sharpton say one thing that I can agree with, “Before there was Oprah, before there was Tiger Wood, before there was Barack Obama, there was Michael Jackson.”

And I have to admit that I agree.  Michael Jackson’s release of the Thriller album mad it cool for white people to dance to a black man’s music.  Of course it didn’t hurt that he took America’s sweetheart, Brooke Shields, to the Grammy’s.

Even though he was surrounded by controversy and eccentric behavior, I just wanted to remember him as the guy dancing at the Apollo… doing the moon walk.  I’m sure I’ll have MTV on for the next couple days while they play his videos non stop.

What will be your memory of Michael Jackson?

I will remember Michael for being the voice of my youth. I am in my 40s and can remember all of the Jackson 5 and the Animated Jacksons on ABC. I can remember a chic I knew dancing to "Got me working Day & Night". I can remember buying "Thriller" and the Billie Jean video. I can remember "Dirty Diana" as my maybe my favorite video. Smooth Criminal. Remember the Time, Jam. The Victory Tour worldwide

My favorite performance of Billie Jean, surpassing the video and his, rendition on Motown 25 Special, because of the extended percussion play matching his gliding-in-place Moonwalk with spotlight! Damn they need to run a special showing of THAT performance on Time Square and the Video Boards at the Dallas' Victory Park! It was smooth, cool, BUMPIN, THUMPIN, and ends with MJ throwing his hat in the crowd!

Saving him from a stampeding crowd at the Dallas Galleria, only to have him come back a few months later dressed as an old man and say thank you and walking from Grand Central Station to Madison Square Garden to see him a few years later. We have truly lost a grand entertainer. He is our generation's Elvis...
