Now that Alpha Boy is a High School Freshman, I remember how much time I spent waiting on my parents to drive me all over town. It was a pain in the butt when ou’re old enough to have a social life, but too young to have a drivers licence. Alpha Boy is at school early to lift weights every morning. He is at football practice after school. And then on the weekends he wants to spend time with his friends. All of that means someone has to drive him around.
So I did some research and found a solution to all of Alpha Boy’s transportation problems. A moped would be perfect. It doesn’t take much gas. It’s not expensive. And in the state of Texas, he can legally drive one at the age of 15. So I introduced the idea. I was surprised to find out he said he’d wait until he was old enough to get a car. What, are you kidding? Of course, he has dreams of having a pimped out ride. He keeps talking about a BMW I used to own or getting a Mustang. But he’s light years from that dream.
Having a moped is the doorway to independence. It’s a great way to show and prove his responsibility. And he can still look cool while he’s doing it. Hell, it beats walking or riding his bike. I even mentioned that any guy that rides a scooter always has a hot girl riding on the back. That didn’t seem to motivate him either.
Over the last couple weeks, we’ve talked about the subject several times. And it all comes back to Alpha Boy wanting a car in a couple years. He seems ok with walking to the store, walking to his friends house or walking to the gym
So now I’m starting to wonder if it’s peer pressure that is keeping him from riding it or is it just the lack understanding what your own transportation can do. Have a missed a the point of leverage? Does that mean having a moped/scooter a sign of being un-cool or a nerd?
