I Almost Lost It

by Eathan on August 28, 2009

Last night was Alpha Boy’s High School football debut.  As a normal Texas dad, I love high school football.  I love it twice as much when my son is playing.  And I’m in heaven when I found out he was starting on offense and defense.  Anyway, you get the idea, I was happy and proud dad.  That emotion changed before the game started.

I arrived at the football stadium early.  I knew KT35 was going to be there and I wanted to say hi.  Immediately our eyes met.  She was on the sidelines and I was in the stadium stands.  She looked great.  We spoke for a few minutes.  Her kids gave me a hug and said hi.  I decided to get a comfortable place in the stands.  I was talking on my phone and watching Alpha Boy warm up.

As I looked around the stands, I realized I didn’t know anyone.  It didn’t bother me, I knew there would be some other parents walking by that I know.  That’s when things took a shocking turn.  As I hung up the phone, Alpha Boy’s mother sat down next to me.  WTF?? Seriously?  I haven’t been in this close proximity with her in over 14 yrs.  Matter fact, the last time we were this close, Alpha Boy popped up 9 months later.   276 watermark 320x240 rampage jackson I Almost Lost It

As strange as this sounds, I blinked my eyes 2 times to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.  It wasn’t a dream.  This was actually happening.  Immediately I looked around.  I guess I had a Rampage Jackson look on my face, because her 3rd husband suggested they move to a different section.  Quietly she got up and moved.

For the next 15 minutes, I am wondering what the hell was she thinking?  What is her motivation?  Now that she’s married to a white guy, is she missing the choco cream of a black man?  Is there something she wants me to pay for? Or was she just trying to mark her territory?
FYI.. Alpha Boy Stats -

Alpha Boy dropped a interception on the 1st defensive play of the game.  He caught a 25 yrd pass and ran it another 35 yrds for a touch down.  And that was only the 1st half of the game.  The game was stopped because of bad weather.  (proud dad smile)

It sounds to me like she was super proud of your son, and she didn’t know how to communicate this… Maybe she wanted to say something. Maybe she’s ready to forgive and move on? 14 years. Wow.

Perhaps there will be a moment to ask her. Wonder if ex would mind them sitting with you? I might be unusual, but my ex and I co-parent closely, so probably we’d be sitting near each other. Interesting tho she was reaching out – could be a good thing. Good luck! xo
