As soon as I heard that Drake wants to be Barak Obama, I shook my head in disbelief. This story caught my eye because as Barak Obama, Drake is biracial too. I think Drake might be over estimating his acting abilities. Drake tells PaperMag “I hope somebody makes a movie about Obama’s life soon, because I could play him. That’s the goal…I don’t change the channel, I definitely pay attention and listen to the inflections of his voice.”
I’m not an movie executive, but I know a mistake when I see one. Drake would be a mistake. I realize that Denzel Washington would probably be a no-brainer for this role, but I’m not sure if Training Day Denzel would show up. Or maybe the Antoine Fisher Denzel would show up. But I would presume that if you’re going find an actor to play the President that stands for change, I’ll have to choose some besides Denzel.
I’m starting to think Boris Kodjoe would be a great choice. Since his mother is German and his father is from Ghana, West Africa, he has the physic to portray Obama. His appeared in the Steve Harvey Show, Soul Food, For Your Love and the Spike Lee production Love and Basketball.
Of course I have to mention Don Cheadle. He has plenty of screen presence to pull this one off. The more I think about it Don Cheadle would probably kill this role. It could be the kind of role that would make him nominee for a Oscar. Matter fact, I would say Don Cheadle is the affordable Denzel. Most of you remember him from Ocean’s 13, but he has a long list to his credit. Such as Hotel Rwanda, After the Sunset and my favorite – Talk To Me. Continued on page 2 below.
