Over the last few months I’ve been reading all different kinds of blogs. I learned blogging is about creating a sense of community and social dialog. I’ve been reading blogs on cooking, dating, and relationships among other things. The one thing that I began to notice is the owners/authors of these sites. I, being Black aka African - American, didn’t find bloggers that are of the same ethnic background as I am. I know they are out there, but I wasn’t finding them. Well, I did find my local sports writer. I found the guys on ESPN, but I was still looking for those who enjoyed writing. The people that write about their views, no matter what they are. Lately I had a similar discussion with another blogger, singleblackmale aka SBM. So in typical IDW fashion, I want to introduce my loyal readers to a few sites that are outside of the norm.

Guest post by Cynthia. Cynthia is a black woman from the ATL and dates interracially. She writes loveselfentirely and a regular reader of IDW. Hi, my name is Cynthia and I interracially date. Why? I like too, it’s that simple. Maybe it was the constant moving around when I was younger that exposed me to more than just one type of people OR the fact that I lived in Germany for 5 years – face it not that many black folks live there, y’all; either way, I’m not exactly sure. I have always been attracted to character, personality and of course looks (if you have an accent, that doesn’t hurt things either) but those qualities aren’t exclusive to just my race. The world is full of beautiful races and cultures, why not date outside the familiar? Why not learn something new that doesn’t have to deal with being a black American.

Guest post by Teacia. Teacia is a black woman who has very strong views. I wanted to share why she loves black men and why she doesn’t want to share them with her white counterparts. I hope you’re enlighted by her words. Let me preface this post by simply stating that I am complex, contradictory and capable of great intelligence but also remarkable stupidity. In other words, I am only human. But those realities don’t change what’s in my heart. I don’t expect for you to understand my words, I don’t even expect empathy for them. I expect to be met with opposition, after all you’re here because you now see in him what I’ve known for centuries, and you will not leave without a fight. Well I’m here to tell you, neither will we.

Guest post by Josey. Josey is my personal friend, long time reader and fan of IDW. This is her introduction to interracial dating. I am a single female, 36, who takes great care of herself and have been blessed physically with beautiful features, including a warm, eye catching smile. I was in two long term relationships with white men and had truly only really been exposed to white men as I grew up in a middle class populated with primarily “white” people, whatever that is… After the 2nd long term relationship ended, I had become “running buddies” with a very diverse, open minded group of people.

Guest post by Rena. Rena is a long time reader and fan of IDW. This is her personal experience with interracial dating and family. I’m the daughter of an Italian man. My grandparents immigrated to the United States in the 40’s and my father was born and raised here in this beautiful country of diversity. On the outside, he was a great guy, life of the party, had a diverse group of friends and was friendly toward everyone from everywhere. He married my mother, who is German and French and little bit of some other stuff in between. I never heard my father really say a bad word about anyone or treat anyone any differently because of their race. We were liberal when liberal wasn’t cool. I’ve dated white, African-American, Hispanic, Pilipino, and Armenian. I mean, who’s really “white” anymore anyway?

As my mom, sister, and I shuffled into the theater to watch one of the most anticipated movies of the year, I took note of the people occupying the uncomfortable seats. Most were women ranging from their 20s to 40s, over-dressed for a plain old movie theater in the heartland. Behind us sat three very young gay men wearing pink shirts and glitter. To my right was the only couple in the theater. The male half of the couple looked as though he felt completely out of place, suggesting that his woman had dragged him into his current situation. With the exception of the unenthusiastic male to my right, everyone was clamoring with excitement for the event.

….. This is the first week post the “SNC” première, Sex in The City….. and women around the world are feeling empowered, sassy and full of themselves…. and they should. Movies like SNC commemorate everything I find attractive in a woman. strength, intelligence, self assuredness, power, sophistication, class and of course, sexiness….. SNC celebrates the emancipation of the 21st century woman. Women who can run their own successful businesses, compete with men in the corporate jungles, board rooms and legal systems across the country… women who can write, professionally, about feelings, observations, and emotions and not get slapped with the sentimental sissy tag…. And more importantly, people actually take their views seriously… what a wonderful depiction of today’s modern woman…..

In Part One, I discussed white women dating black men from a dating preference perspective, but what about those women who do a 180 in their dating preferences and begin dating black men when everything in their value system and background would lead you to believe they would never date one? Maybe a girl who was raised in an extremely racist family or one who grew up in the Deep South where interracial dating has been frowned upon for years or even one who was raised in the conservative Midwest where interracial dating is just not something you see every day. How does that girl end up dating black men?
